Owen Bush
Owen bush is a Bladesmith based in SE London. He has been smithing for 29 years. Owen specialises in making Viking and Saxon pattern welded swords and as part of his exploration into these pieces he has become involved in smelting his own Iron and steel from ore.
One of the things that becomes apparent when you start to try and remake ancient objects in steel is that using modern steel to make the objects looses some of the context of the historical piece. Smelting your own materials or at least using smelted bloomery steel and iron brings our attempts at understanding what was happening in the past that one step closer.
Owen teaches blade smithing classes at his school in Welling, Kent and undertakes commissions for pattern welded swords.
