Augusto Boer Bront

I was born and raised in the small town of Cividale del Friuli, in North-Eastern Italy. While growing up I always had a keen interest for the arms and armour of the middle ages, interest which peaked when I was 18 when I decided that I wanted to become a professional armourer. For that I moved to Sweden to study for a Bachelor and Master degree in Fine Arts at the University of Gothenburg, at the Metal Art department in the village of Dals Långed.

In late 2018 I opened up my company in Sweden, making and selling custom made armour. My main interest is to faithfully reconstruct and try to understand European plate armour, mainly from the XIVth and XVth century. For that I also started to ride with historical horse breeds and historical equipment in recent years, and with that my understanding of amour and its relation to its primary function, being used on horse, has been exponentially increasing.

I prefer to use traditional techniques when making armour, so I use a coal forge, a pair of tongs and a hammer, mostly. To me the thickness distribution and the overall shape and silhouette of the armour pieces are of capital importance, just to better understand the reality of the context in which these steel vessels were used in and used for.
